Hello! So a few years ago my grandmother moved back to an assisted living home, my mom and aunt have been taking care of her. My mom noticed something odd about how no money was going into my grandmas bank account. She hardly has any money in there. We found out from another relative that she gets an extra $2000 a month. My aunt is her POA and claims to be financial fiduciary over her funds. Is there anything we can do? I know she has been stealing her money but its hard to prove.

I'm sure this the stupidest question of all, but have you and your mother tried asking your POA aunt about grandma's income and outgoings? Seems a more straightforward approach and preferable to the rest of the family talking behind their hands about it.

And who is this "other relative" who claims to know all about gma's income? Are they possibly trying to sow discord between the sisters in order to stir the pot or gain some sort of control over granny's income?

If Auntie won't share financial info with you, your next step is to hire an attorney to see if you have standing to inquire into this matter.

Sofrustated, by chance is your Grandmother on Medicaid, and that Medicaid is paying for all of your Grandmother's care?

If yes, then your Grandmother is only allowed to have a small amount in her bank account, and the rest goes to the nursing home, with Medicaid making up the rest of the cost.

Let us know if this is Medicaid. Others on this forum who are more familiar with the ins and outs of Medicaid can give you more information.

Well she has tricare but that doesn’t cover her assisted living expenses, she gets money from Social Security and the VA.

The VA gives her an extra $2,000 and she doesn’t go anywhere or do anything so I know that money is going into a different account.

Ok her income is from SS, VA, and a Pension, after her living expenses she has $2,000. She does not have Medicaid, it is tricare and no, they are not paying for her assisted living she is. The other relative is my aunts daughter who has been worried about what her mother has been doing with my grandmas money. She has not made things clear about my grandma’s income.

CountryMouse- my mom has tried asking her several times and never tells her the amount. She has been so secretive about the whole thing that makes it suspicious!
