The VA Has, in the past few years is now paying Spouses to care for the Veteran. (I did not have this option and my Husband died 7 years ago so this change has been within those 7 years.)
Your friend should contact the local Veterans Assistance Commission in her area and see what benefits her husband is entitled to.
The VA is constantly changing and updating information and it can mean a change in "Service Connected Disability" %.
If he does qualify for more benefits that might help as well. (The VA does provide provide caregivers but the hours are minimal, but she should take advantage of what they do offer)

If he was in the military during a War he may be able to get Aids and Attendance. She should contact her Counties VA office and see what he is entitled to. Medicaid would be an option but its income based.

To be honest, a wife is not usually paid.

Medicare has ""intermittent" care but she would not get paid.
