I'm by myself in this role with limited support from family and physically tired as all the issues fall on me.

Find Care & Housing
I suggest contacting your Area Agency on Aging to obtain a list of ALs and their recommendations or maybe even ask their assistance in finding an affordable placement. They research placements all the time and are very good to at least provide possibilities. You may also want to see if your mother qualifies for some community Medicaid in home care hours so you can get some rest and tour the facilities AAA identifies for you.

Unless you have unlimited funds, make certain that when money runs out the facility will take Medicaid.  Also, be aware that your parent can be on Medicaid and only subject to 5 year look back on transfers if they enter a facility (depends on state).

First off, I am so glad that you recognize that it’s too much. Go tour facilities. Collect the important information and prices.

Choose one or two that you like the best. If your mom is able to help select from your choices, allow her to help you choose. If she isn’t or you don’t want to involve her then you can select.

Best wishes to you and your family.
