I forgot "The Bomb" this was suggested by my Hospice Team
1/4 Cup Prune Juice
1/4 Cup Orange Juice
1/4 Cup Milk of Magnesia
Heat that up to about body temperature.

A caregiver that I had wanted to see if it worked he took just before he left after his shift. He told me that it worked within 45 minutes...right about the time his night class started.

Milk of Magnesia.

Whatever you do, don't use MiraLax - it's Polyethylene Glycol which is horrible for anyone at any age.

Peace

When absolutely everything else has failed, you put on the gloves, use lots of lubrication and use one finger to work those cliff bars out of there.

Dulcolax works really well for my mom. She used to take Senokot and that worked really well also and is more natural.

With the doctor's blessings...prunes or prune juice, works every time!

The GI Dr gave my Father Linzess- a prescription for IBS-constipation. He takes it once in the morning and works well. ( most of the time - lol).

I had very painful constipation due to a prescription NSAID that I did not know was the cause (now discontinued). My PCP, a GI doctor and another previous GI doctor recommended Mirilax because it was "so benign" to the body. I tried colace, dulcolax, and milk of magnesia at various points. Mirilax can be reduced to every other day once it takes effect.

My 82 year old Mom has ALS and is on peg tube feeding. We use Lactulose and suppositories daily. Occasionally with pain pills and other health issues, she will get impacted and we end up doing enemas also. Mom's muscles are breaking down (ALS) and she is moved using a hoist.

My Husband daily had Senna, that is a stool softener.
I also gave him things like Prunes (had to stop those when I stopped other "slippery" fruits)
High fiber meals.
He also got Miralax daily.
(that I had to mix in with food since his fluids were thickened and you can not add Miralax to a drink that has "ThickIt or other product like it", the Miralax prevents the product from thickening)
One fruit combo that worked well was a puree of pineapple and papaya. I would puree both and freeze in 1/2 cup portions for him.
The doctor also prescribed Lactulose that was given daily.
And the occasional suppository was used.
This was one of the things that I kept a log of (no pun intended) for Hospice.

My aunt (94- who drinks very little) gets a warmed cup of apple cider with breakfast & lunch. It has never failed us and is gentle. Please give it a try.
It works better than prune juice.

Warm up a cup of prune juice. Add a capful of Miralax...this always helps me.

Increased fibre if possible, stewed prunes.
Citrucel (as opposed to metamucil which causes too much gas) once daily.
Consider stool softeners such as colace.
