Ok you are in Forrest Co, so you are in the SMPDD region for all the coordination of services done by the AoA aka Area Agency on Aging. They have an office in Hattiesburg, 601-645-2137 & 800-444-8011. You want to speak to someone to get an assessment done to be placed on the Home Delivered Meals program and perhaps also see if you can also go onto a congregate meals program as well. SMPPD has a website but it’s not that great. The website for the one for up Rankin, Hinds / Central MS is way better, it’s CMPPD.

Heres what those acronyms mean & why:
all states have regional planning bodies that are the Area Council of Governments aka a COG. The COGs deal with planning and development issues that cross jurisdictional lines, like transportation & health issues, over a fixed area that will be several adjacent counties for the most part. COGs get $ from State, local and county government as well as from Federal agencies. Some get grants as well for funding. They have been around forever but below on the radar for existence for most of us. The COGs almost always are the ones who have the Area Council on Aging staffing and some COGs have their Area on Aging so big that it has its own building or offices at a different address from it’s parent COG (Houston Galveston COG has this).
The Area on Aging ends up being the wheelhouse for centralized info for Aging services for your region. For the ‘Sip, the AoA is done in regional Planning and Development District offices aka a PDD. PDD is a slightly different version of a COG. You in Forrest are in the South Mississippi Planning and Development District aka SMPDD. It is 15 counties. It’s large enough that it has the office in Hattiesburg and also one in Gulfport (228-868-2311) as well. Both use 800-444-8011.

Really call 601-545-2137 Hattiesburg officer SMPDD. Again imho their website is pretty lame. The Central Mississippi PDD one is way easier to understand info to read to get a better idea of what they do and how.
