Hi Channing,
Sometimes your doctor can override the decision of the insurance company if you've tried other drugs (you have) and only one works. Unfortunately, some doctors are more willing to fight than others. Please ask your doctor to have his nurse try again. Good luck,
Carol

There is an official process for requesting an exception. Often the insurance companies require your doctor to fill it out. Ask your insurance company what to do to apply for an exception. I've noticed that the list of medicines covered by insurance companies is starting to leave out many medicines. It may have to do with negotiating a price for the medicine, or perhaps better medicines have been found. If you need it, request an exception. Please let us know what your insurance carrier says.

Channing,

How are you? My name is Darryl and I am a volunteer for the GA SHIP program. I just ran a check on several Part D plans in Georgia and that drug is not listed on any Insurance Plan Formulary (approved drugs for coverage). I then checked on NeedyMeds.com to see if you can purchase the Hyoscyomine from the manufacturer for a discounted price. This drug is not listed on NeedyMeds for a discount. It appears you have to purchase this drug a full price.

Take care

I would do as Jessiebelle and Carol advised. My doctor had contacted the insurance company for me when they had turned down the only medication that was working for me after trying all others. Many doctors will fight for you as they are fed up with the insurance companies dictating the medications that their patients need to be covered. Good luck and take care

Channing,

How are you? I think as a matter of practice and diligence you should try to get your doctor involved in getting Hyoscyamine covered by your Plan D plan. But I think it is important to know that Hyosyamine is not a Brand Name Drug, it's a Generic. The Brand named drugs are Anaspaz, Cystospaz, Levsin and Donnamar. Neither the Brand Names or the Generic is covered by Part D plans or discounted by a Prescription Drug Assistant Plan (PDPA). I would recommend what my mom does with uncovered Part D eye drops she need for Glaucoma. Her doctor gives her free samples every time she needs them.

Good Luck and Take care,

Darryl
