I recently read about the use of virgin Coconut Oil for dementia/Alzheimers and wondered if anyone on this list was trying it?
I read an article about Dr. Mary Newport who used it on her husband with remarkable results. She put a couple of tablespoons in his oatmeal and saw results within weeks.(You can a find a link to the article in the Tampa Bay News by googling Dr. Mary Newport.)
I also read about coconut oil for dementia in Dr. Gott's column although he wouldn't recommend it.
You might as well try Coconut Oil -- It might give some short -term relief. It is not a cure, and will not arrest the onset of it over time. Here is one good article on this. alzheimers/2013-05-29/coconut-oil-for-alzheimers/
Coconut oil has many benefits, you just need to make sure that you purchase the edible type, not the spectrum brand. Buy virgin coconut oil.
The advantage it is that it do mot cause none gut disorders, once my aunt had a mild diarrhea when she was taking the ool by mouth.
But she it is having the same enhancings in her mood and behavior with the massages with coconut oil as she has when she takes the tea spoons of extra virgin coconut oil by mouth.
I see massages with the oil as an.alternative to takes by.mouth.
We are giving too 80 miligrams of L-CARNOSINE 3;to 4 times a day (there are lots of articles in pubmed about the food supplement carnosine in dementias it is NOT carnitine).
CARNOSINE works as an heavy metal chelator, antioxidative supplement, and os is an antiglycating supplement too,and associated to coconut oil have a synergistic effect to enhance mood and cognition.
There are a lot of coconut oil smoothy recipes on the internet. Just google it. Try to get the organic extra virgin oil for the best food value. The things they use in processing the other stuff can be unhealthy and never tastes as good.
im in love with it now .
ssk
food tatse somewhat good and diffrent , worth a try !
coconut oil is also in the MILK, but not in the water. The water is also excellent with more natural electrolytes than...more than Gatorade, that's for sure. the WATER pretty much stopped my mom's leg cramps. It is pricey. I use it to water down the yogurt protein drink smoothies.
i think im going to start fryin eggs in em .
Look up Beers Criteria for guidelines in getting off unnecessary prescription or OTC drugs. It could make a major difference in dementia symptoms. Mom currently off ALL Rx
I saw Dr. Newport's video and tried it. Bruce's speech cleared in 3 hours. He has been improving ever since. He has been over a month now on the oil, and he does everything for himself again. the last test he scored was 24 out of 30. He did a You Tube video talking about it.
The coconut WATER has magnesium, I think.
was on nemenda and aricept now she has multiple myeloma
her mind has improved and she isnt repeating like she did i did namenda and magnesium
everyone has noticed a difference....the dr said all the magnesium will do is give her diarrea whatever..... she developed this one sided gait a year ago no medical person knew or tried to find out
started again with it went online it is a side effect to the nemenda so have her off it pretty sad this is how we find out about our loved ones when the drs are being paid for this just a little bitter
Anyway, back to searching best way for Mom to feel warmer. It doesn't help to say, we'll you never move, no circulation...she feels cold she wants to go to bed, which is NOT moving...so around and around we go...or not go in this case.
Now problem with being cold all the time, even though it's hot. Read somewhere that coconut oil is good for that, so am poking around researching again. Know somewhere on this list, someone had a thread about their parents always being cold. Thyroid? poor circulation? Or maybe she can't tell the diff between actual cold and the sensation of a breeze...
I recently heard the head of the University of Wisconsin - Madison Alzheimer's Research Foundation speak on a local radio program. I emailed him about my mother and forwarded the link for Dr. Newport's results with coconut oil. He hadn't seen the article on the coconut oil but he did say that they had seen good results with DHA Omega 3. This is not regular Omega 3 so make sure you get the right one.
