My DD is an RN & keeps insisting I should buy my mother some CBD gummies (without THC) to help with her chronic, high level anxiety & pain from neuropathy in her legs/feet. Her doctor upped her dose of pain medication at night, which keeps her asleep now, but to give her a higher dose during the day is probably not a good idea for a few different reasons, Stage 4 kidney failure being #1, meaning the meds will build up in her system & she won't be able to get rid of them properly.

So I ordered these CBD gummies on Amazon the other day.

$29.00 for 180 gummies, 2 gummies is 1 dose. I took 2 yesterday and fell asleep. Today I took 2 and feel extremely RELAXED and mellow. I am not paying attention to the pain in my hip/back that usually drives me crazy.

These little guys do work, at least for me! Now, the problem is going to be getting them to my mother who lives in Memory Care. The staff won't give them out, even if the doctor writes an order, which is pure stupidity in my opinion. They're not pot, there's no THC in them, and you can purchase them on Amazon, like face cream or vitamins. So......they won't let her keep 'medications' or even vitamins in her room ( in case she decides they're delicious and eats the whole jar at once), and I can't get in there to give them to her personally.

Good grief. Anyone figure out a way around the red tape in Memory Care to give your LO CBD gummies?

Stick them in a gummy vitamin bottle and get the doc to write a script for vitamins?

Update: So the Asst ED is getting it approved by the ED; at that point, the doc WILL write the order for the Hemp Oil and it WILL be administered to my mother every day. Phew. I doubt it will work, but it MAY help a bit with the anxiety, IDK. Fingers crossed.

You will need her to have it prescribed by her doctor. Then, they can give them to her. It would also be better to have them supplied through a pharmacy rather than you buying them for her.

I know it is easier to just get them and ask them to give "gummies" to her, but they are being used as medication. There are strict rules about medication administration in all facilities to keep clients safe.

I used CBD oil for Mom and it made a huge difference to her spinal arthritis pain. Doctor said it was fine. The only thing they worry about it long term effects which didn't pose a problem with Mom as she was 98 when we started- there IS no long term involved with our loved ones on limited time to start with. It was very safe with all her other meds too. LOVE the idea of putting those dummies in a vitamin bottle.

Haha, DO please private message me the link on amazon to these. I have tried this stuff and it gave me nothing but gas. I am saying that I think some of what we believe is because anecdotally we believe it will help. In the United States the supplemental industry is completely unregulated, completely out of control, and often dangerous. No reputable company would allow nurses to give this by YOUR prescription. So honestly, I am WILLING (more than, given the current amount of pain in my legs) to test this out for you. Send me the link. And I will just hope it doesn't give me gas.

The other recommendation for leg pain is Penetrex cream, which did work for a couple of years for my mother's leg pain Alva. Now she's past the point where much of anything works:

CBD can also make someone with dementia predisposed to falls and more confusion. Psychoactive effects slow reaction time..falls. side effects of cannabidiol include dry mouth, low blood pressure, light headedness, and drowsiness. It CAN interact with other medications. Since people with Alzheimer's cannot describe side effects, this can be seen as elder abuse.

CBD oil has a lot of reported side effects and adverse reactions to common drugs.

Her mother's PCP can research the possible interactions before prescribing. My mom had several meds and had no negative side effects.

What brand did you order from Amazon?
My mom (85)has used them with great success. I want to compare prices. If your mom doctor has prescribed them how can MC refuse to administer? Speak to the admin and push this.

Hi, I have the same problem. The nursing homes or any facility can not allow it until it is federally approved. Hopefully this will lift in the near future - at least for the CBD without THC

"CBD oils, which are processed from the hemp plant, are legal to possess under the new federal law as long as they, too, contain no more than 0.3 percent THC."

Your mom's doctor cannot prescribe the gummies, as cbd products are still illegal under federal law, but he/she can "recommend" them. I made a point to be at my dad's facility to meet his physician during rounds and explained my dad's belief that they gummies and oil help with pain and insomnia and he was happy to sign off on them. They are kept on a high shelf in my dad's room and laid out for him to take with his evening meal...rather than being "dispensed."

This is wrong. CBD is legal federally. It can be prescribed. And has legal been for a few years now.
