Ellenelizabeth, welcome to the forum. When you get a chance please fill out the Profile page. That will give us more information to help us form the best answers. Such as what are your medical conditions that require around the clock care?

If you are not able to pay your grand-daughter from you own funds, have you applied for Medicaid (which is different from Medicare)? Each State has their own rules, regulations, and programs. Most States offer a program where a family member could possibly be paid. But note, that pay could be for only a few hours each week at minimum wage or more. Medicaid is funded by State/Federal taxes paid by us taxpayers.

On a side note, I always cringe whenever I read that a grand-child is doing caregiving. A grandchild should be out in the working world, earning a good salary, having her own health insurance through her employer, being around people her own age, adding funds to her 401(k), paying into social security/medicare, raising her own family, etc.
