Lisa has cerebral palsy and can no longer take care of herself. She is having a hard time accepting this and can be unreasonable and difficult. She has been in an assisted living place in MN. Since most of her family lives around this area, I would like to find someplace closer to us.

Well....I would say talk to the advisers here. Call “a place for Mom”. Ask at the local council on aging.

Some place closer to Wisconsin, do you mean? - I see from your profile that's where you live.

Don't know if you've heard of and/or think much of these people? http://www.broadscope.org

Perhaps they may be able to help the family come up with a plan that Lisa will be happier with. If they're no good please let me know and I'll keep digging.

Laura, visit all the local Independent Living or Assisted Living places in your sister's area. Some of the newer places are built like hotels. One enters a lobby similar to a hotel. There is a main restaurant type restaurant. And very nice 1 or 2 bedroom apartments, or a studio apartment.

I know I mentioned Independent Living, some places offer a higher level of care even if the person is in Independent Living, of course, there would be an extra cost involved. My Dad lived in such a place and he felt like he was living in a really nice 2 bedroom apartment which had a large living room and a full-size kitchen. And yes, Dad had physical therapy by a personal therapist who came to his apartment. This was a group of therapists that contracted with the senior facility.

An AL usually doesn't have therapy on site. You can have the RN have the doctor order it. Medicare will pay for the cost.
