The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. Looking for someone who has dealt with a dementia patient, who is not able to walk on his own, to get from chair, change his diapers and put him to bed every night for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Prefer man. Where do I start?
Most agencies do have a 3-4 hour minimum, but I was fortunate to find a CNA that was working for herself. Her name was given to me by our Senior Services as she had worked for them for 12 years prior to her going out on her own. I too only needed someone for 1 hour in the morning to put my bedridden husband on the bedside commode and then hold him up, while I cleaned him and then she put him back in the bed for me. My husband because of all the fluid he was retaining weighed probably around 180 at the time and she was able to handle him no problem, with a gait belt, so please don't rule out a female as well. I had called every agency around and they all had a higher hourly minimum then I needed, and it wasn't until I called our local Senior Services that I was able to find someone for just an hour. I’m in the same situation. My DH aunt needs help getting changed at night. She can change herself, she just forgets to do it and won’t move on the suggestion soon enough to get the job done. I’ve got it, she’ll say and then keep flipping her remote. Then I’m worried about the person coming in and exposure to Covid.... My brother was a volunteer with a group of men who took turns basically putting an old friend to bed each night. They did that for several years until the friend went into a NH.
It would be great if the EMS had a service like that where they could help out for a fee during their down time. Again, during Covid, might be worrisome.
Good luck finding someone. I know some hospice have volunteers but I don’t know what they are allowed or will do. You might try contacting hospice for extra help even if they can’t come for this particular chore. To me, every little bit helps.
Mad, this isn't a site on which you can hire people. Please access help in your own area from agencies or individuals. This is basically a site of caregivers giving one another advice and asking questions. The ads you see sponsor the Forum site. Good luck in finding the help you need in your area.
I think you will have more success through an agency, and you will probably need to commit to more than 1 hr per night -- just think of what a weird and inconvenient schedule that is for someone trying to make a living... You'd have to pay them a lot for that 1 hr to make it worth their while. I recommend a minimum of 25 hrs per week, if you can swing that in your budget.
