My mother with FTD is taking 100 mg of Quetiapine (2X/Day). Sometimes she experiences dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness. What are some of the side effects you are seeing or experiencing?

DO NOT REDUCE on your own. Talk to her doctor about possibly reducing dosage.

A 100mg dose twice a day sounds like it would cause the dizziness, etc. My mom took it for sundowning behaviors. She started with 12.5 mg/day at 4p.m.. Over the course of four years it increased gradually , in 12.5 mg increments, to 75 mg a day, still once a day at 4p.m. This dosage was very sufficient for my mom.

I take that at BEDTIME only. It is very sedating, and really helps me go back to sleep when I wake up at night.

Yes, those a common side effects. Talk to her dr. You can get lower dosages of it, or cut it up for a smaller dose. Check with a pharmacist, some meds you can't cut up.

Sleepiness is one, in fact the major one. The others are all normal, and can cause an elderly person to be disoriented or a fall risk.

Other than that, is it helping? I don't know much about TX for FTD.

Seroquel (the generic name) is used for anxiety too. Time for a little check with the prescribing doc. 100 mgs is a lot for a 'newbie'. First time I took one I slept for 12 hrs. It's been a game changer for me.

If you're not going to talk to your practitioner, call or visit the pharmacy. A pharmacist knows quite a bit about drugs and their side effects. Bring a list of all her medications, even over-the-counter ones, so they can see if there are any possible contraindications.
